Go-Cart Comic Life Project
During our first quarter Models & Designs Unit, sixth grade science students will design models of go-carts that are able to perform various tasks, such as rolling down a ramp and across the floor for a short distance, being self propelled, and traveling two meters. Each engineering challenge becomes increasingly more difficult, and students have to really use their higher level thinking skills and problem solving strategies to complete the challenge by revising their design and changing specific variables. Students gain experience with design and engineering tasks as they investigate the relationships among go-cart variables. Students ask wonderful engineering questions along the way to challenge their classmates and help in the design process. It is amazing that all students have the same materials and the same challenge, but there are so many different designs that are created! As a culmination to this activity, students will use Comic Life to showcase their go-cart designs, which will include photos of each design, along with a description of how the team met the challenge and which variables were changed or added.
