Welcome to our Vachel Lindsay
Website America's foremost rhymer/designer was
born Nicholas Vachel Lindsay in Springfield, Illinois. He
was born in 1879 and died in the home of his birth in 1931.
During the 1920's he was one of America's most popular
poets. He was especially known for his beautiful art work
that accompanied many of his poems and for his unique way of
performing his poetry instead of just reading it. People
also admired the "tramps" or walking tours he took
throughout America, exchanging poetry for room and board.
Young people today seem to appreciate many of Lindsay's
themes: his love for individualism, nature, and simplicity;
and his hatred for hypocrisy and pettiness.
